BIOGRAPHY
Christian Ludwig Attersee was born on August 28, 1940 in Bratislava. Four years later, his family moved to Austria. He studied at Hochschule für angewandte Kunst (University for Applied Arts) in Vienna from 1957 to 1963 and later served there as a professor from 1990 to 2009. He has been active in fine and visual arts, printmaking, set design, film and photography, music, literature, and has made objects and monumental works for architecture. He combined many of these fields in a comprehensive work. He was also a three-time national champion in sailing.
The significance of his position in contemporary Austrian art is documented by the awards he has received: Grand Austrian State Prize 1997 for art, 2004 Lovis Corinth Prize, 2005 Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art 1st Class, among others.
Attersee has organized more than five hundred solo exhibitions in Europe and elsewhere.
