The exhibition of a selection from the Meulensteen Collection was an extraordinary event presenting the works of artists of European and world renown. Gerard Meulensteen exhibited the finest works from his collection built up over two decades. His interest in art was primarily stimulated by personal contacts and friendships with artists that have given him a “new perspective on life”. The Meulensteen Collection currently consists of several hundred works by outstanding artists. He has pursued his interest in post-war modernism with links to the present, especially to painting, sculpture, object and graphic art. The collection consists of three parts: international art, Dutch art, and Slovak art, included after the construction of the Danubiana. The exhibition concept presented the collection as a whole.
Thus the works of various artists representing different art forms entered a mutual dialogue and created the basis for their new contextual perception. The exhibition offered a unique opportunity to view the works by outstanding artists in one place: Pierre Alechinsky, Arman, Robert Combas, Günter Damisch, Jim Dine, Sam Francis, Christo, Paul Jenkins, Jill Moser, Takashi Murakami, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Claes Oldenburg, Markus Prachensky, Walasse Ting, Betty Woodman, Karel Appel, Constant, Corneille, Lucebert, Ad Snijders, Ilona Keserű Ilona, and the leading figures of Slovak art: Viera Kraicová, Milan Paštéka, Rudolf Uher, Miroslav Cipár, Rudolf Fila, Jozef Jankovič, Vladimír Popovič, Peter Pollág, Marek Ormandík, Svetozár Ilavský, Erik Binder, Dorota Sadovská, Erik Šille, Viktor Frešo and other protagonists.
